The level crossing in Nunthorpe is set to receive a complete renewal from Sunday, 22nd to Saturday, 28th February.
During the works, buses, serving all stations, will replace trains between Middlesbrough and Whitby on the mid-week closure dates from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th February.
The road itself will also be closed for a full 5 days, beginning from 7 pm on Sunday, 22nd February, to 5:30 am on Saturday, 28th February. A signposted diversionary route for motorists and cyclists will be in place between these dates.
Pedestrians will have the option of a free shuttle bus to take them around to the opposite side of the level crossing while it is closed. The shuttle bus will run every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, while the works are ongoing.

Work on the crossing will include the installation of new sliding barriers, of the same type installed at Redcar, and a more modern operating system. The deck of the crossing will be entirely re-laid with a new layout and markings, giving a smoother ride to trains and motor vehicles.
Before the closure of the level crossing to both rail and road users, anyone wishing to know more information about the works and alternative travel arrangements can attend a community drop-in event on Thursday, 5th February at Nunthorpe Academy, Middlesbrough.
“We’re fully renewing Nunthorpe level crossing to improve safety and reliability for everyone using the railway and the road. The existing crossing needs to be replaced due to the age and condition of the current equipment, and we’ve scheduled the work for half-term week to minimise disruption as much as we can.
“We appreciate there will be some disruption while the work takes place and thank the community for their patience and understanding.”
Amelia Fordyce, Network Rail project manager
