Aberdeen Station is set to receive track upgrades at the end of the month.

Network Rail plans to carry out the £3.8 million project over three consecutive weekends: Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February; Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 February; and Sunday 15 and Monday 16 February.

Work to replace rail, ballast and sleepers will be carried out in sections across platforms 3, 4, 6 and 7 to enhance the reliability of trains from this station.

Over the weekends, no trains will run through the station while around a mile and a half of rail will be replaced, 4,500 tonnes of ballast will be added, and 1,500 new sleepers will be installed.

ScotRail, CrossCountry and London North Eastern Railway will have rail replacement buses to connect passengers to Aberdeen.

Detailed alterations can be found on operator websites, and National Rail can also be checked before travelling.

“Aberdeen station is a key gateway for the northeast of Scotland, supporting thousands of journeys every day and connecting communities across the region and beyond.

“The £8m redevelopment of Aberdeen station in 2022 delivered major improvements for customers and strengthened the station’s role as a key transport interchange. Continued investment in essential track and infrastructure upgrades will help improve performance and provide more reliable journeys.

“While this essential work takes place, we know there will be disruption to journeys, and we’d like to thank customers for their patience and understanding.

“Our focus will be on minimising the impact on customers and ensuring they have the information and alternative travel options they need to continue travelling with confidence.”

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail Service Delivery Director
