Network Rail has made a new agreement with the East Lancashire Railway, which was signed yesterday.

The new partnership allows materials, such as rail, sleepers and equipment that are no longer needed on the national rail network to be reused on heritage lines.

This means that the railway can keep running at a lower cost, allowing the line to make repairs more easily and sustainably.

The Railway will provide opportunities for Network Rail to showcase railway history and future in a heritage setting.

  1. A lot of heritage lines already use ex Network Rail track components to repair and replace there lines. As I have been involved with supplying into Network Rail I was amazed at the age of some of the points/switch assembly drawings that were submitted by Network Rail, as they were dated prior to the formation of British Railways in 1948.
