Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund is providing £4,500 in grants to two stations.

Thetford and Lakenheath stations will soon have a series of wildlife interpretation panels installed, thanks to the grant.

These will complement the already thriving gardens, thanks to the station adopters, who have received recognition for their work.

The new panels will help passengers identify species found in the gardens and encourage them to visit the nearby RSPB Lakenheath Fen nature reserve.

The work of the station adopters will be showcased on the panels, highlighting the increased biodiversity and the benefits it brings to the area.

The other panels will cover ‘Trains, Cranes, No Automobiles,’ highlighting sustainable travel links and featuring images of landmarks.

The insect identification panels will be placed on platform 2 in the waiting room, transforming it into an “Entomology Department”.

“We are pleased to support this initiative, which helps to highlight rail’s environmental credentials and the excellent work of the station adopters in creating an oasis for wildlife at both stations.

“We are always looking to enhance the role of the railway in support of the community it serves, and our Customer and Community Improvement Fund is a way of supporting further locally focused enhancements in line with community needs.”

Greater Anglia’s Partnerships Manager, Scott Dolling
