Passengers are being advised to check before travelling, with a number of operators experiencing major disruption on the East Coast Main Line today.

Engineering work has overrun between Welwyn Garden City and Alexandra Palace, and means that some lines are blocked.

Grand Central, Great Northern, Hull Trains, London North Eastern Railway, Lumo and Thameslink are all affected by this disruption.

Trains may be revised, delayed or cancelled, and operators are warning that disruption will last until the end of the day.

Great Northern says that peak services will be extremely busy and passengers may be left behind if a service is full.

Alterations from Great Northern are as follows:

  • Moorgate – Welwyn Garden City services have been suspended
  • Cambridge – Brighton services have been suspended
  • Some trains between Cambridge and London King’s Cross will have additional station stops
  • Welwyn Garden City – Sevenoaks services will only run between London Blackfriars and Sevenoaks

Hull Trains and Lumo say that passengers should still travel, but journeys may be delayed

London North Eastern Railway say that ticket acceptance is in place with Avanti West Coast, TransPennine Express, Northern, East Midlands Railway, CrossCountry, Greater Anglia and Great Northern / Thameslink.

The latest travel advice is available on the National Rail website.
