The Loo of the Year Awards is not an award ceremony many rail passengers across the country may have heard of. Still, such a ceremony does exist, with various awards given to the best kept public conveniences across the country.

In the ‘Best Railway Toilets in Britain’ category, the water closets crowned the best on the national railway network were those on platform 12 at London Paddington station.

While Paddington has a few toilets located around the station, the ones on platform 12 won the award due to positive feedback from users, with over 90% satisfied with the presentation and cleanliness of the facilities.

The Changing Places Toilet also won one of fourteen across the UK given a diamond-graded Champions League Standard award, following high praise from customers who rated the facilities with its baby changing station very highly.

This particular toilet also includes stoma-friendly facilities. These facilities are a first for Network Rail and were installed in partnership with Colostomy UK.

“We’re delighted to take the number one spot as the best station facilities in Britain for our toilets at London Paddington. Whether you’re taking a train or just making a ‘pit stop’, we’re proud to offer clean and accessible facilities for everyone.

I’d like to give massive thanks to the station team and our hard-working cleaning staff who have really earned their stripes with their commitment to providing the best facilities for our passengers.”

Combined, the toilets on platform 12 use over 6,000 miles of toilet roll each year, which ironically works out to the same distance between Paddington station and a certain famous bear’s home country of Peru.
