This evening, weather conditions along the Dawlish sea wall are expected to become quite severe.
Due to this, Network Rail and Great Western Railway have decided to close the line between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot due to the expected conditions.
Wind gusts are expected to reach 60mph paired with persistent heavy rain, particularly during high tide, meaning the line could be damaged by water breaching the wall.
From 20:30 today, the line will close until 14:00 tomorrow (24th January), with the possibility of this closure being extended, depending on the outcome of inspections.
Those who need to travel are advised to complete journeys by 20:00.
Replacement coaches will be in place to keep people moving in the meantime, and those with tickets during the disruption can travel on the 25th with them.
Ticket acceptance will also cross over on Stagecoach South West bus services 2, 7, and 12.
Further information and updates on the disruption can be found on GWR’s website.
