Eurostar saw a rise in passenger numbers across all of its routes from London in 2025. They also celebrated another milestone as they carried their 400 millionth passenger since the service was established in 1994.
Since 1994, Eurostar has seen a gradual expansion of its network across the northwestern corner of mainland Europe. Focusing on trains that left London in 2025, passenger numbers increased by 18.3% on services to Amsterdam, 5.8% increase on trains to Brussels, 5% increase in passengers travelling to Paris and a 10% rise in passengers travelling from London onward to Germany via changing trains in Brussels.
Eurostar’s newest route from London to Amsterdam is proving very popular with passengers, which seems fitting that their 400 millionth passenger travelled on ES 9124, the 11:04 London St Pancras International to Amsterdam service on January 13th 2025.
The lucky passenger, Amy Gallagher, who was travelling with her partner Elliot Ripley, was treated by Eurostar to an upgrade to Premier class on board the train and received a bottle of Eurostar’s on-board exclusive champagne.

Looking to the future, the growth of passengers on the Amsterdam route will be of key interest to Eurostar. Last February, the new increased capacity UK terminal opened in Amsterdam, while a fifth daily service from London – Rotterdam – Amsterdam was added to Eurostar’s timetable in December.
In preparation for future passenger growth across its network, they announced a €2 billion investment, which will feature 50 double-decker Eurostar Celestia trains, the first double-decker trains to run in Britain, direct from mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel.

The Eurostar Celestia trains are expected to enter service in 2031. They will offer greener travel and enhanced comfort with a 20% capacity increase compared to the e320 class. The trains will be in operation across the Eurostar network and on new direct services from London to Frankfurt and Geneva.
Other highlights for Eurostar in 2025 include joining the charter of commitments last April, the launch of new staff uniforms in October, and a continued reinvention of the seasonal onboard train menus.
“To have welcomed 400 million people on board Eurostar is an incredible moment in our long history of connecting people across Europe. Celebrating the milestone with a lucky customer on our Dutch route made it even more special, as we continue to focus our growth efforts on The Netherlands. Another year of growth to 20 million passengers only motivates us to do more for our customers in the years to come as we expand, including into new countries as we introduce the new Celestia fleet.”
