The fledgling Lynton & Barnstaple Railway in Devon is to feature in a new Channel 4 television series ‘Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations’, which starts on Thursday, 8th January at 9 pm.

One of the former Hairy Bikes duo, Si King, along with Siddy Holloway, known for her series exploring the London Underground, and architect Damion Burrows, will visit parts of the railway beyond simply catching a train.

They will explore extraordinary spaces, from station platforms to hidden worlds, where heritage, technology, and community come together.

The series consists of four episodes with a prestigious line-up of railway facilities, and the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway’s station at Woody Bay is among the few heritage railway locations to be featured.

The railway currently runs on a one-mile journey from Woody Bay to Killington Lane Halt. Trains are usually steam-hauled, and take around 20 minutes for the two-mile return trip.

The first service for the 2026 season runs on Friday, 3rd, with departures every 45 minutes between 10.35 and 16.00. Services then continue throughout the summer every day, except Mondays and Fridays.

The new TV series was filmed last summer, when work started on building a new carriage shelter at Woody Bay. The next stage in rebuilding the railway is to extend it to Cricket Field Lane at Parracombe.
