Yesterday was Samaritans’ annual Brew Monday, with numerous organisations working together.
Network Rail has been inpartnership with Samaritans since 2015 to help vulnerable people.
This year, railway staff and volunteers were handing out teabags and encouraging people to have conversations and challenge Blue Monday.
A survey carried out by Samaritans highlighted that 18% of people never talk about their feelings, with only 20% talking about feelings just once a month.
Events were held across the rail network to try and change this statistic, with Network Rail hosting events across numerous locations, including St Pancras, Leeds, Edinburgh Waverley and East Midlands Railway, and Greater Anglia also hosting events.
As always, people are reminded that Samaritans can be contacted at any time by phone or through their website.
“It was great to see so many of our colleagues in rail embracing Brew Monday this year and reminding both staff and the public how good human connection feels, how easy it is, and what a difference it can make to people’s wellbeing. And we’re so grateful to the rail industry for their continued support for Brew Monday, by helping us to turn small talk into big talk, it might just save someone’s life.”
Dave Brown, head of the rail programme at Samaritans
