A £7.9 million project has seen Network Rail install a new footbridge at Harlington station.
The bridge, designed to last 120 years, was lifted into place over the festive period when no trains were running.
The new 40-metre bridge was installed by a 300-tonne crane, replacing the ageing bridge, reducing future maintenance costs and improving efficiency.

This installation was part of a larger station project that will see the renewal of platform surfaces, yellow lines, and tactile paving, with completion expected in Spring 2026.
“We’re delighted to have successfully installed the new footbridge at Harlington. This project represents a significant investment in modern, reliable infrastructure that will improve safety and create a better experience for everyone who uses the station. We thank residents for their patience while this work was carried out.”

Good to see a new footbridge is needed as Harlington. Perhaps it should include lifts to make the station step-free accessible. And with a new station at Wixams to be built south of Bedford on the Midland Mainline.
