Alstom has secured a €500m contract from Germany to supply 26 Coradia Max double-decker trains, including their maintenance and servicing until the end of 2055.
The trains form part of a major order signed in 2022 for 130 Coradia Max trains and associated FlexCare Perform maintenance and servicing.

The trains will be supplied to the Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Württemberg (SFBW), with delivery scheduled from mid to late 2028. As well as being used on various routes in Baden-Württemberg, they will also be available for use by DB Regio Baden-Württemberg and Arverio in rail network 35’s Lot 1 and Lot 2 between Stuttgart, Bodensee, and Netz, where they may operate Regionalexpress and Metropolexpress services.
With a maximum speed of 200 km/h, the Coradia Max trains being supplied to Baden-Württemberg will have the fastest maximum speeds in Germany’s regional transport network. Each train has a seating capacity of 380, in two double-decker control cars and two single-decker intermediate cars.
Passenger features air conditioning, Wi-Fi, USB charging points for mobile phones, and reading lamps. There are dedicated meeting areas and family compartments, and multi-purpose compartments for large luggage, prams and bicycles. Easy access is through wide single-leaf doors and step-free access for mobility-impaired travellers.
To enable the trains to be controlled by Germany’s first digitised railway hub, “Digital Hub Stuttgart”, state-of-the-art signalling and automation technology will be installed.
Last November, Alstom received an order for the supply and 30-year maintenance of 42 Coradia Max electric multiple units from the Polish long-distance rail operator PKP Intercity. In 2024, Alstom was awarded a prestigious “Red Dot Award” for design excellence for its IC5 Coradia Stream train.

”The expansion of the Coradia Max fleet will offer passengers even more capacity, comfort and speed in regional transport. As a partner for long-term maintenance and servicing, we will make a decisive contribution to the reliable operation of the vehicles for decades to come.”
Tim Dawidowsky, President for the Central and Northern Europe region at Alstom
