Transport for London, in conjunction with Boldyn Networks, has extended 4G and 5G mobile coverage to more stations and tunnelled sections on London’s tube network.

Coverage is now available on the Circle and District lines between Blackfriars and Cannon Street, and between Notting Hill Gate and Bayswater, and includes key stations such as Euston Square, Cannon Street and Battersea Power Station. More stations will follow in the next few months, including King’s Cross St Pancras, Gloucester Road, Warwick Avenue and Vauxhall.

Network operators Three UK, EE, Vodafone, and Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) are all involved in the rollout, which will also host the new Emergency Services Network (ESN). When the ESN is fully operational, first responders in live situations and emergencies will have immediate access to life-saving data and images.

Work is underway to implement high-speed 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the entire Tube, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), the Elizabeth line, and the Windrush line between Highbury & Islington and New Cross. Design and initial testing are now taking place on the Windrush line and DLR as a prelude to it going live in the tunnelled sections and stations later this year.

Mobile coverage now extends to all the Elizabeth line, and in the ticket halls, corridors, and platforms at 62 of the 121 Tube stations that are ‘underground. Tunnels in most of the Northern and Metropolitan lines are expected to go live by the end of this summer.

“It’s great to see further progress in our goal to introduce high-speed mobile coverage across our Tube network. The latest stations and tunnels going live means that we are on a clear path towards having 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the whole network by the end of 2026. Engineers are working hard overnight during the limited engineering hours to deliver this programme, and we hope that customers enjoy benefitting from being able to stay in contact with friends and family, shop online and stay on top of the latest news and sports results while travelling across London.”
