The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has announced that they have cancelled its Whitby Winter Excursion services.

The trains were planned to operate between Pickering and Whitby between the 27th December and the 4th January; however, they will no longer run.

Additionally, the 20th December Christmas Moorlander Pullman dining service has also been cancelled.

The reason for this is essential maintenance work at Grosmont station, which has had to be brought forward by three months.

An examination of Bridge 42 in May 2025 allowed for the Winter trains to run; however, a new inspection this week means that the decision has been made to complete the work sooner.

Work will start on the bridge in the New Year.

Santa services will run as planned. NER Autocar services will operate between Pickering and Goathland only.

Festive Travel and Treats, Christmas Pullman, Christmas Charters and GWS Afternoon Tea services will now only operate between Pickering and Goathland.

Passengers have already been contacted if they have made a booking.
