The first two TRAMLINK trams supplied by Stadler entered regular service in Potsdam this week.
A total of 13 of the vehicles will eventually be deployed in Potsdam.
The TRAMLINK trams are 42 metres long, which is around twelve metres longer than the Variobahn vehicles that they are replacing. Each tram can accommodate up to 246 passengers, with 74 seated.
The trams have eight wide doors, which enable passengers to board quickly and conveniently.
The interior of the trams is bright and spacious. The vehicles have step-free access, and Stadler states that it has paid particular attention to the needs of different passenger groups.
The trams feature parent-child seats, which provide ample space for families. They also include four multifunctional areas, which can be used by passengers who have strollers, and also include two separate zones which can accommodate wheelchair users.
The trams’ air conditioning is optimised for minimise energy consumption, and adapts to the number of people occupying the vehicle. The vehicles have LED strips which indicate the status of the door.

The vehicle design incorporates bogies with continuous axles, which assists in making journeys smooth and comfortable.
The vehicles also boast other features, including USB sockets and a modern passenger information system.
Stadler believes that by introducing TRAMLINK trams, the city of Potsdam is investing in a modern, sustainable and comfortable transport service.
Stadler has supplied TRAMLINK trams to several European cities. The trams began operating in the city of Milan in Italy earlier this year, and entered service in Bern, the capital city of Switzerland, in November 2023. TRAMLINK vehicles also operate in Erfurt, Jena and Rostock in Germany, Gmunden in Austria, and Santos in Brazil.

“We are delighted to announce the start of passenger service for the new TRAMLINK tram in Potsdam. This modern tram represents a significant step forward in improving urban mobility and will offer residents and visitors a comfortable, environmentally friendly, and efficient way to get around.”
