The East Lancashire Railway’s Mike Kelly has announced that 60163 Tornado will be visiting them for their Legends of Steam Gala in 2026.

It will be the third Legends of Steam Gala to take place on the East Lancashire Railway, following a popular 2025 gala, where 61306 Mayflower stepped in for Tornado.

This year’s event will take place between the 10th and 12th April 2026, and more details will be announced soon.

Tornado is currently at its Darlington home, but will soon be moving down to Tyseley to haul a Vintage Trains Christmas excursion.

    1. She was meant to with earl of mount edgecumbe on Wednesday but that didn’t happen because of not having enough drivers I think. Not sure when it will go now. Probably not long because it’s hauling the railtour on the 10th

    1. I first saw her on the West Coast Mainline as a kid. I had a beautiful set of photos of her coming down from the Level Crossing at Bolton Le Sands towards the Hest Bank Crossing. There used to be a pathway over the line at the back of Morecambe Lodge. I laid in the brambles wearing a old wax jacket of my dad’s. He loved the photos and had them framed. They showed her from a speck in the distance, right through to the final shot of the driver waving and the fireman shoveling coal just behind him. I wish I had kept them. But thank you for bringing back a old lovely memory.
