In order to help them raise £350,000 towards Robertsbridge Junction Station, the Rother Valley Railway Heritage Trust has launched a major Buildings Appeal.
The station is part of the next step to reconnect Robertsbridge with Tenterden and will become the western terminus of the line when the extension is completed in 2028.
Supporters have already helped them complete phase 1, involving a £500,000 station building, which is now completed. Work is also ongoing to create an accessible route from the car park, which is set to be completed in 2026.
Since the progress is very near completion for phase 1, they are now looking to move on to phase 2.
This includes the construction of a new locomotive shed and servicing complex, and will feature six core elements.
They will have covered accommodation for locomotives, inspection pits, fuelling points for steam and diesel engines, staff rest and washroom facilities, public viewing areas, and solar panels to reduce long-term energy costs.
£250,000 has been secured through grants; however, the project is set to cost £600,000 in total, so they are seeking the remaining funding.
There are numerous donation options available from one-off donations of any amount, large upfront contributions and monthly donation opportunities.

They have created special donation packages with a bronze, silver, gold and platinum option, with each option giving different rewards and recognition (see above).
The donation options can be explored online, along with how to donate.
“The heart of our mission has always been about partnership – a partnership between donors, volunteers, and enthusiasts, who not only believe in preserving railway history but in building a strong future. That future will see communities reunited and bring benefits to local economies as new visitors arrive via the national rail network to explore the many attractions of this beautiful area – from the picturesque town of Tenterden to the historic castle at Bodiam. Every donation, large or small, truly matters, bringing us closer to achieving that goal and making our long-held dream a reality.”
