Next year, the Great Central Railway will take significant steps toward its reunification project.
Two big projects will be carried out – a new road bridge and a section of viaduct will be built.
The work will cost them millions; however, they have secured 75% of the funding.
Once complete, it will chip away 60 metres of the missing 500 metres between the railways.

They already have planning permission, have carried out the necessary groundwork, and are ready to get started.
Donations have been coming in from around the world, and they are hoping more people will donate to the project.
Further information on the project and how to donate can be found online.
“We’re delighted to share our intentions to get back to building for the Reunification project,”
“Already three parts of the build have been completed, which involved raising and investing millions of pounds. With planning permission now granted for the rest of the work, ground investigation completed and final design underway, we can look forward to seeing construction workers back on site in Summer 2026. Our business forecast predicts tourism growth for the area when Reunification is finished. We want to help turn people who day trip to the area, into people who take longer breaks here which is good for us all.”
“Every pound will help us build more railway, so we’d urge anyone who would like to see this work continue and the project completed to please consider a donation. It’s been really humbling to see how much everyone has put their faith in the railway to deliver. On behalf of everyone, thank you.”
Great Central Railway General Manager, Malcolm Holmes
