Lumo have launched their new low-cost, reliable and sustainable rail services with great jubilation, which now sees trains run from Glasgow, Falkirk, Edinburgh, and North-East England to London.
Before departure, the passengers received souvenir scarves and were treated to performances by Strom Electric Strings, a violin duo, stand-up comedy from Connor Burns from the Glasgow International Comedy festival, and a special appearance from Just the Brave, a popular Scottish boy band.
The first passenger train to run the whole route left Glasgow Queen Street on time at 18:18 on Monday, 15th December 2025.

The train, formed of a 5-car unit No. 803 005, called at Falkirk High, Haymarket, Edinburgh, Waverley, Morpeth, Newcastle, and Stevenage before arriving at London King’s Cross Platform 1, one minute early at 23:58. At one stage of the journey, the service was running 10 minutes early.
Tickets are now on sale for these new services, with passengers able to travel from London King’s Cross to Glasgow Queen Street from as little as £33.10 one way and from Newcastle to Glasgow from £10.90 one way.

Three trains a day will run the full route each weekday, two from London to Glasgow and one from Glasgow to London.
Lumos’ next big launch will be in May 2026, when it will connect Stirling to London Euston using the West Coast Main Line, a new route for Lumo operations. Lumo has also submitted applications to increase the size of its operational network.
“This is a landmark moment which will boost connectivity between Scotland and England, offering a sustainable travel option whilst also boosting economic growth.
It was a particular pleasure to celebrate the launch of our inaugural services in style with a brilliant range of guests from our dedicated team, as well as our partners from Scotland and across the border. We’re proud to champion Scotland and look forward to providing the unique Lumo service to even more customers from this week.”
To mark the occasion, Lumo enlisted the help of Houston Kiltmakers to design an official Lumo tartan which was revealed to guests who attended the launch, each receiving a limited edition scarf.
Stuart Jones, Managing Director of First Rail Open Access
“It’s a pleasure to work with like-minded people who appreciate Scotland and all it has to offer. I’m absolutely delighted that we were able to play a part in Lumo launching in Glasgow and look forward to seeing our new tartan design out and about in Scotland and across the border.”

I like the idea of Lumo to extend to Glasgow Queen Street. Would be nice if more Class 803s would have been built to add 10-Car (2x 5-Car Class 803).
Or LNER to extend their service to Glasgow Queen Street with plans to add more services such as Scunthorpe, Cleethorpes and Grimsby Town and to add Scarborough as well.
Well done Lumo. But, what has the company Lumo got against to name 3 off major stops, York, Doncaster & Peterborough. Very strange. I sincerely hope L.N,E.R. using the 5 car with no buffet car sets takes up the challenge urgently. THE ROUTE; KINGS CROSS – PETERBOROUGH – DONCASTER -YORK – EDINBURGH – GLASGOW CENTRAL.t The price to match Lumo or even better. Perhaps with more trains. Come on Mr Horne start the process now.
