This weekend’s Manchester Model Railway Exhibition will celebrate a century of the Manchester Model Railway Society.
In March 1925, the society was formed and became just the third (at the time) society of its kind in the UK and the world.
26 model railways will be on display as well as a number of traders from around the country.
The show, held at the Sugden Sports Centre, will be held on the 13th and 14th December, with more details on the MMRS website.
Tickets will cost £14 for Saturday and £11 for Sunday.
“This exhibition offers a chance to see some of the very best model railway layouts at present exhibited in the UK, together with models from earlier eras whose creators had a profound impact on the development of the hobby.
Many of these modellers were MMRS members. As well as celebrating our own centenary, we are also marking the development of the full sized railway in the UK, but whereas the rest of the country is starting in 1825 with George Stephenson’s Stockton & Darlington Railway, we are going back further – to 1804 and the first steam train to move passengers and goods along an iron track. To find out where that was,
Exhibition Coordinator, Philip Sweet
and who built the locomotive, you’ll need to come and see our display!”
