The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) released statistics regarding station usage and revealed the busiest station for the year.
For the third year running, London Liverpool Street takes the top spot with nearly 100 million entries and exits.
The statistics demonstrate the impact of the Elizabeth Line, which continues to propel passenger numbers not only at London Liverpool Street but also at Tottenham Court Road and Paddington.
The numbers also highlighted 8.7 million journeys made between London Liverpool Street and Tottenham Court Road.
Journeys between stations or popular flows showed that 6 out of the top 10 were stations along the Elizabeth Line.
The top 5 include:
- 1 – London Liverpool Street with 98 million visits and not changing positions
- 2 – London Waterloo, with 70.4 million, placing 4th last year
- 3 – London Paddington with 69.9 million, placing 2nd last year
- 4 – Tottenham Court Road with 68.1 million, placing 3rd last year
- 5 – London Bridge with 54.7 million, placing 7th last year
Outside of London, the top station is Birmingham New Street with 36.6 million entries and exits.
They also stated the least used station, with only 68 entries and exits was Elton and Orston in Nottinghamshire, which has been the case previously.
“This year’s statistics show rail usage continuing to grow around the country, and we’re also seeing the sustained impact of major investment, particularly the Elizabeth line. These insights are vital in understanding how travel patterns are changing and in planning a network that meets passenger needs.”
Feras Alshaker, director of planning and performance at the Office of Rail and Road

London Liverpool Street. I used to drive in there a lot when I was a driver for MTR Elizabeth Line. But it seemed to me that there was a lot of discrimination in their training department. So sad
