The Great Central Railway are arranging the sale of LMS Black 5 No. 45491, which is based at the railway.
The locomotive, which arrived at the Great Central Railway in 2011, was built in 1943 at Derby Works.
The locomotive has been at the railway for 15 years, but the railway has had no role in the restoration.
The disposal of the locomotive comes as it is believed there is still substantial work to do before it can be considered fit for use.
The Great Central Railway say that the sale is being conducted with reference to Section 12 and Schedule 1 of the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977.

Offers need to be submitted before the end of January 2026.

Think it would have been 1983 the locomotive wheels were sent to BSC at Rotherham for new tyres and I machined new crank pins for the wheel sets and have been hoping the restoration would have been completed show I could see them in use. Unfortunately I am not in a position to contribute physically or financially to the project but hope someone can take it on and finish the project.
TBH, I’m pretty sure we all knew this was coming.. 45491 has been taking up space for years with little to no progress on her restoration
I hope whoever buys her, continues her restoration
