There will be fewer train services on the East Midlands Railway (EMR) network during Christmas and the New Year, because of normal changes to the timetable during the festive period, and due to engineering work being carried out by Network Rail.
With the times of train services differing from the usual timetable throughout the country, customers should check their journey times before they travel and book early.
When tickets are booked in advance, there are savings of up to 60% on many journeys, including many popular routes such as Nottingham and Sheffield to London.

Summary of changes:
- Christmas Eve, 24th December:
- EMR services will finish earlier than normal.
- The last trains will depart between 19:00 and 21:00, depending on the route.
- Customers should make sure they know the time of their last train, especially if they are attending festive events.
- EMR services will finish earlier than normal.
- Christmas Day and Boxing Day, 25th and 26th December:
- There will be no train services, and all stations will be closed.
- 27th December:
- Some services will operate to a revised timetable, and engineering works may affect journey times and service frequency.
- New Year’s Eve, 31st December:
- EMR trains will operate throughout the day, but some services may finish earlier than usual.
- Customers attending New Year celebrations should make sure they know the time of their return journey.
- New Year’s Day, 1st January :
- A reduced timetable will operate with fewer train services.
- Some trains will start later in the morning and be less frequent.

Other train operators will also implement changes to their normal timetable over the festive period, including Great Western Railway and in South Wales.
“The festive season is one of the busiest times of the year for rail travel, and planning ahead can make all the difference. We encourage customers to check their journeys in advance, book early for the best fares, and allow extra time when travelling. We look forward to helping customers reach their festive celebrations safely and smoothly.”
