With just three weeks until Christmas, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) are getting into the festive season with the introduction of a Christmas menu in first class and a seasonal themed children’s podcast on the LNER Kids Club.
For those who regularly travel in first class or those opting to treat themselves on their way to visit family and friends during the holidays, the Breakfast Menu will consist of the regular options but will also include a choice of seasonal toppings, including cinnamon, apples and sultanas. In addition to this, some LNER services will also include a chef-prepared breakfast until Friday, the 19th of December.
The on-board lunch and dinner menus will consist of Christmas dinner. Creamy Béchamel and mozzarella will adorn nicely prepared succulent chicken breasts with sage and onion stuffing, with complementary cranberry sauce on the side.
Other choices include a vegan-friendly Boxing Day salad box, a wrap featuring a colourful selection of small vegetables, and a Christmas fritter with festive parsnip, coleslaw and infused rice.
Desserts consist of an orange frangipane mincemeat tart or a sweet maple and banana dessert pot.
Those in standard class will not miss out as the choice of ‘Pigs in Blankets’ will be added to the menu in the onboard Buffet Cars, and will be available to purchase through the onboard service ‘Let’s Eat At Your Seat’.

For younger travellers, the children’s Christmas Podcast will cover a range of events on the topic of Christmas, from popular festive movies to Christmas Markets, cracker jokes, and railway facts. Hosted by Emma-Louise Amanshia and Lauren Underwood, the episode can be found on all podcast platforms and or by scanning the LNER QR code onboard the trains.

Until the timetable change there are Northbound and Southbound downloadable pages giving the catering offered on a per train basis .. So far those lists don’t seem to exist.
