East Lancashire Railway will mark its fifteenth year of hosting Thomas the Tank Engine events with visits from the famous engine as part of the Day Out With Thomas Let’s Rock, Let’s Roll Tour next year.

Thomas will be visiting heritage railways around the country during 2026, including visiting the East Lancashire Railway in Bury on 2 – 4 May, 18 – 19 July and 3 – 4 October.

The tickets are available to buy now, and must be bought in advance of the event. The heritage railway is suggesting that Day Out With Thomas tickets make excellent Christmas presents for fans of the engine.

A Day Out with Thomas features a 45-minute ride on a train hauled by Thomas, which is a genuine steam locomotive. There will be live entertainment from the Sodor Station Sweepers, Rusty and Dusty. Visitors will also be able to make musical instruments in the Arts and Crafts workshop, and to enjoy the Instrument Garden Wall. A giant Piano Mat will give them a chance to make music.

Thomas characters on hand to greet visitors will include Sir Topham Hatt, Controller of the Railway, and there will be opportunities to take photographs during the event, including posing with Thomas.

In the Play Pod, visitors will be able to play with Thomas and Friends toys and to be creative with arts and crafts. Thomas and Friends garden games will also be available, and families can take part in an exclusive character hunt.

There will also be face painters on hand, to decorate the faces of anyone aged two or over who fancies a fun makeover. Toddlers will have four funfair rides to try out, and every child will receive Thomas and Friends giveaways.

Visitors will have the opportunity to buy further Thomas merchandise from the on-site gift shop, including an exclusive Day Out With Thomas engine (whilst stock lasts).

Food and drinks will also be available to buy.

Other attractions at the East Lancashire Railway next year include a visit from iconic steam locomotive the Flying Scotsman, and the Legends of Steam Gala.
