The Transpennine Route Upgrade team will be carrying out major work in Deighton whilst trains aren’t running over Christmas.

The work on Whitacre Street and Leeds Road will take place between 22:15 on Wednesday, 24th December, and 05:30 on Sunday, 27th December.

The overbridge on Whitacre Street will be demolished, whilst on the A62 Leeds Road, new concrete parapets will be installed using a crane.

This work is part of the major work at Deighton station and will allow for track realignment work next year. The work next year will allow for the current two tracks to be expanded to 4 to allow express trains to overtake stopping services.

Diversions will be in place, and road users need to check the roadworks.org website for their journey.

“We’d like to thank the local community for their understanding as we work to deliver major upgrades for Deighton station. The Christmas period is always a good opportunity for work to be completed as there is minimum disruption to services.

“The work on both bridges during this time will take us a step closer to a much-improved Deighton station and improved rail services through the area and beyond.”

Sophie Leishman, TRU sponsor
