Last month, Direct Rail Services driver Chris Bray was given an award for his courage and compassion.
He received the Rail Hero award on the 26th November at the Heart of Gold Awards ceremony.
He won the award for his actions during an incident that epitomised the kind of spirit celebrated by the awards.
Back in February, Chris was operating a freight service from Daventry to Crewe when he saw a woman in distress, brought his train to a stop, and made contact to block the line and keep the woman safe.
He then left his train and spoke to the woman, reassuring her and keeping her engaged in conversation until Network Rail staff and the British Transport Police arrived to get her to safety.
The actions taken ensured that the woman remained unharmed.
“I really don’t feel like a hero, just glad I was in the right place at the right time.
“I’m also grateful for the quick response from British Transport Police and Network Rail. It was a team effort to make sure she was safe.
“It was a real honour just to be nominated, and in a category with such deserving winners too.”
Commenting on his award win, Chris
