In the past year, the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) has made significant progress and huge achievements.
Major progress has been made in installing overhead power lines to support greener travel, with August seeing 25% of the route electrified.
Stations were at the centre of the project this year, with Huddersfield undergoing a 30-day closure to accommodate longer trains and a new depot; bridge and track alignment work at Deighton; and a closure at Ravensthorpe station until 2028.
This year also saw 40 miles of track installed, 1000 OLE foundations constructed, 30 miles of cable roughing laid and 7721 shifts worked across numerous teams.
“This year has produced so many achievements and what we’re doing across the programme will not just improve journey times and reliability, but better connect towns and cities across the North.
TRU is a key enabler to unlock potential in our communities and support regional economic growth, and we are looking forwards to another successful year in 2026.”
James Richardson, Managing Director for the Transpennine Route Upgrade
