Passengers in Melton and Woodbridge are being reminded to plan ahead during upcoming level crossing closures.
Following the recent closure of the line in East Suffolk for 9 days, there is some work to ensure that the line remains reliable.
Network Rail will be carrying out work at Melton station, Jetty Lane, Haywards and Ferry Lane level crossings.
Melton will be closed from the 9th to the 10th of November and again from the 5th to the 6th of December. There will be a signposted diversionary route.
Haywards and Ferry Lane will be closed on the 8th-9th November and again on the 5th-7th December. This closure will permit some access for pedestrians and vehicles.
Network Rail will be carrying out some follow-up work, which will involve stressing, welding, and tamping of the new track.
As well as the level crossing closures, the engineering work needs to be carried out safely, which will result in Greater Anglia services between Ipswich and Halesworth being replaced by buses.
This will occur on the following dates:
- Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November
- Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November
- Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November
- Saturday 06 and Sunday 07 December
- Sunday 14 December (between Westerfield and Woodbridge only)
Disruptions to services and further information can be checked online.
“This investment is about securing the future of the East Suffolk line and we have made great progress so far during the work in October. We’re now continuing with the follow up work to make sure the track is bedded in which will mean safer, more reliable journeys and less noise for passengers and communities. Thank you to passengers and communities for continuing to bear with us while this work is carried out.”
Simon Milburn, Network Rail’s infrastructure director for Anglia
