With the introduction of a revised train timetable from Sunday, 14th December, Transport for Wales (TfW) is increasing the number of trains across its Wales and Borders network.

The major improvement is to the train services between Chester and Wrexham, which will be doubled to two trains per hour.

To strengthen community connections by improving cross-border travel and more flexible travel arrangements, the daily 11:23 service between Cardiff and Holyhead will also stop at Craven Arms at 12:59 and Church Stretton at 13:07.

On the Bidston to Wrexham General line, on Mondays to Saturdays, an extra train will depart from Bidston at 05:54 to Wrexham General, and depart from Wrexham Central at 20:51 to Bidston.

On the Cambrian Line, the 20:26 Pwllheli to Machynlleth and 21:47 Machynlleth to Pwllheli evening services were due to be removed during the upcoming winter months because, historically, there has been less demand for them during the winter.

After discussion with local communities, they will continue to run after the December timetable change. New trains will also be introduced to the Cambrian Line next year.

Details of the new timetables being implemented from Sunday, 14th December, have been uploaded to journey planning systems, and further details can be obtained from the Transport for Wales website at www.tfw.wales.

December’s changes build on improvements to services last December, which saw additional services at some stations, later services from Cardiff Central and Swansea, and the introduction of Britain’s first tri-mode trains on the Core Valley Lines.

“Railway connections are vital in driving prosperity. These changes will make a real difference to customers, who will benefit from more services across Wales and the Borders. This has been made possible by our £800m investment in brand-new trains for the Wales and Borders network.”

Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
