Dovetail Games has announced that an Add-on for Train Sim World 6 of a Class 142 Pacer in Transport for Wales (TfW) livery will be released next Tuesday, 25th November.

The new release, from Just Trains, is set in Cardiff around 2019, during the Pacers’ last years of service in Wales. Players will be able to shuttle around the Cardiff City Network in a 142’s typical ‘nodding donkey’ fashion.

Class 142 Pacers were first introduced to Train Sim World in Just Trains’ first route Add-on: Blackpool Branches. Much derided by many an enthusiast and commuters due to their loud engines and bumpy ride, these cheap, utilitarian buses on rails lasted many decades in service, prompting headlines of the train that never dies and Britain’s hated Pacer – the train that just won’t go away.

Their use was only meant to be temporary, but lasted from 1984 until 2021, and as well as in Wales, they could be seen throughout the UK, from Carlisle and Dumfries in the north, to Devon and Cornwall in southwest England.

When the Pacers first arrived in Wales, Arriva Trains Wales was operating the train services, to be replaced in October 2018 by Transport for Wales. The transition between the two operators was reflected in the livery; after Arriva names and logos were removed, they were replaced by TfW branding on top of the Arriva livery.

Changes in the TfW Add-on include LED Headlights, two-leaf instead of four-leaf bi-fold doors, updated door open/close operating buttons, inclusion of sanding equipment, a non-operational ‘smash glass to access’ emergency door handle, NRN and GSM-R antennas mounted on the roof, a new seat design and authentic moquette, and operational DRA and TPWS.

Adding to the distinctive nature of the TfW Pacers is the use of an authentic native Welshman for on-board passenger announcements, which are activated by a manual button in the cab.

The TfW Class 142 Pacer Add-on also requires the Cardiff City Network and is suitable for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. It will be available from Epic Games Store and Steam for £12.99, and a user Manual will also be available, either soon before or on release day.

As well as announcing the release of the TfW-liveried Pacer Add-on, Dovetail Games recently released the Riviera Line in South Devon for Train Sim World 6.
