Overnight, there was flooding in Lancashire and Cumbria, so passengers should check before travelling.

There are significant delays in Cumbria, with suspended services between Whitehaven and Carlisle.

Network Rail staff are currently on site to monitor the flooding; however, the Met Office has issued a yellow severe weather warning for rain for the rest of the day.

Flood warnings have been issued across the region by the Environment Agency, and a second yellow weather warning has been issued across England and Wales for Friday and Saturday.

This isn’t the only flooding incident today, which is also causing disruptions in Devon.

To keep up to date with services and check your journey, visit National Rail’s website.

“Passengers should be aware that there is some disruption on the railway today as a result of flooding in the North West.

“Our teams are working hard to resolve issues where they arise and we will continue to work with partners to monitor the situation. The weather is expected to continue to get worse throughout today and tomorrow so I would urge passengers to check before you travel.”

Phil James, Network Rail’s route director for the North West
