ScotRail will help fans travel to see the Scotland team play in two important international sports fixtures this week.

On Sunday (16 November) at 15.10, Scotland’s men’s rugby team will play Argentina in a Quilter Nations Series match at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. And on Tuesday (18 November) at 19.45, the Scotland men’s football team will play Denmark in a Group C World Cup Qualifying match at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

ScotRail will run additional services and provide extra carriages on key routes on both matchdays.

For the rugby fixture, additional services will run in and out of Edinburgh throughout the day, with extra carriages on routes including between Edinburgh Waverley and Fife, Perth, and the Borders Railway.

Murrayfield’s nearest station, Haymarket, is a short walk or tram ride from the stadium.

Fans can take a tram to and from the entrance to the stadium and St Andrew Square tram stop, which is a short walk from Edinburgh Waverley railway station.

They can also take a bus (1, 3, 12, 22, 25, 26, 30, 31 or 33) between Edinburgh city centre and the stadium.

ScotRail is urging fans that when the match finishes, they make their way to a designated holding area on Haymarket Terrace. From there, they will be directed to the appropriate queue for their train.

The operator is encouraging fans travelling to Hampden Park for the football match on Tuesday evening to take the train to Mount Florida, the nearest station to the stadium, and to return to the station promptly after the match to join the queuing system that will be in place.

It is also advising passengers to buy return tickets in advance using the ScotRail app, online, at a ticket office, or from a self-service ticket machine.

ScotRail will also deploy extra staff for both matches to help passengers and ensure that the train service runs smoothly.

Scotland’s rail operator is experienced at providing for sports fans, and recently met the needs of supporters during a busy sporting weekend in both Edinburgh and Glasgow and for last month’s World Cup football qualifying games.

“It’s another brilliant week for Scottish sport, and we’re looking forward to helping thousands of fans travel to both Murrayfield and Hampden to support the national teams.

“We’re putting on more trains and extra carriages to make it easier for supporters to get to the matches and home again after the final whistle.

“Travelling by train is the best way to enjoy the occasion, avoid the traffic, and be part of the atmosphere from start to finish.”
