To encourage people to choose rail travel between cities in the West Midlands in the run-up to Christmas to shop or visit Christmas fairs and attractions, West Midlands Railway has launched a new ‘Festive Fiver’ ticketing option.
Going on sale from Thursday, 6th November 2025, the £5 return tickets can be used after 4 pm between any two stations within a zonal boundary map.
Birmingham New Street station is located at the centre of the map in Zone 1, with Coventry, Stourbridge and Wolverhampton located in the outer Zone 5.

Several other stations located within Zones 1 – 5 will also benefit from the ‘Festive Fiver’ tickets, which will be available from and can be used to travel between any of the stations within the limits of the outer Zone 5 boundary.
Passengers under the age of 17 will see the most savings when using a ‘Festive Fiver’ return ticket if they already have a 16 – 17 Railcard.
This Railcard can be applied to the ‘Festive Fiver’ return ticket, giving them 50% off.
These festive return tickets will be available to purchase until Tuesday, 23rd December 2025.

For passengers in the West Midlands intending to travel longer distances by train near or during the festive season, tickets for Christmas travel with Avanti West Coast are available.
“Christmas is fast approaching, and we want to make sure our customers across the West Midlands can enjoy all the fantastic festive events happening in the region. With this ticket, passengers know they won’t be paying more than £5 when travelling within zones 1 – 5 after 4pm, making it simple to plan your evenings out.
I also want to remind passengers that trains are expected to be busier than usual over the festive period, so please make sure to check your journey before you travel and be kind to staff and your fellow passengers.”
Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director
