The British Transport Police has released an update into their investigation into the stabbings onboard a train at Huntingdon.

Anthony Williams has been charged with multiple offences following the incident, but the BTP now say the investigation includes three other incidents that took place on the 31st October and 1st November, as well as an incident at Pontoon Dock DLR station on the 1st November.

The police are investigating the following timeline of events:

  • 31st October at 19:10 – a 14-year-old boy is stabbed by a man in Peterborough. He suffered minor injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital. Cambridgeshire Constabulary say that the offender had already left the scene when the call was made.
  • 31st October at 19:10, a man entered a barbershop with a knife in Fletton, and this was reported to the police two hours after the incident.
  • 1st November at 00:46 – British Transport Police received reports that a stabbing had taken place on a Docklands Light Railway train at Pontoon Dock. A 17-year-old suffered facial injuries. BTP subsequently identified Anthony Williams as a suspect and took steps to locate him.
  • 1st November at 09:25 – Police attended the barbers again in Fletton to reports of an incident; however, despite arriving within 18 minutes, the man had long gone.
  • 1st November at 19:42 – Emergency services attend reports of multiple stabbings on the 18:25 LNER service from Doncaster to London Kings Cross.

British Transport Police detectives say that they are linking all of these incidents, and active enquiries are being made.

From the train incident, seven patients have been discharged from the hospital. One patient, Samir Zitouni (an LNER Customer Experience Host who was onboard the train), remains in a stable but critically unwell condition. Three other patients remain stable in the hospital.

The BTP say that there are no matters regarding the incident at Huntingdon that need referring to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) at this time.

Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy said: “The criminal investigation is a priority for British Transport Police, and we are working closely with Cambridgeshire Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service.

“We have also this week initiated measures to increase the visibility of police officers across the railway network to reassure both rail staff and the travelling public.

“People will have seen officers actively patrolling concourses and trains, engaging with train crew and passengers, and covering as many services as possible to maintain safety and confidence.

“Most importantly, the public are our eyes and ears too. If you see something that doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and text us on 61016.”
