This month, Network Rail will be working on the Norwich end of the Great Eastern Main Line to complete the next stage of upgrading signalling components.
The 40-year-old signalling components are being replaced to ensure that they are compatible with future signalling upgrades.
Engineers will also be working between Norwich and Diss on the overhead line equipment, and around Stowmarket, they will be using stoneblowers to level the track and ensure it remains smooth.
The work is scheduled across two weekends, the 15th and 16th November and on the 29th and 30th November.
Additional work will also take place on the 23rd towards the London end of the line. With engineers working at Forest Gate to replace a faulty switch, which currently has a 50 mph speed restriction and making repairs to a bridge.
This means that replacement buses will be in place instead of normal services.
Buses will run differently across the work so passengers should check before they travel on Greater Anglia’s website or on the National Rail website.
“We’ll be making the most of our planned engineering access, carrying out a range of essential works to keep services running on time into the future. We’re really sorry for the disruption while trains can’t run, but we need to get these jobs done.”
Simon Milburn, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia
