Due to flooding, train services were suspended yesterday afternoon (November 12th) between Barnstaple and Crediton.

Network Rail is urging people to check before travelling for the next few days, until they can investigate and water levels drop.

Remote monitoring equipment at three bridges and viaducts surpassed the threshold for closure; a marker example on the Taw River can be seen above.

The structures need to be inspected by specialist diving teams to assess the bridges when water levels have dropped, ensuring no damage has occurred and that services can operate safely.

Services can be checked online.

“Passengers planning to travel between Barnstaple and Crediton in the coming days are asked to check the status of their journey before travelling at GWR.com as services are currently suspended owing to flooding.

“We’re working closely with our colleagues at GWR to keep passengers on the move with ticket acceptance in place on local bus routes and replacement bus services in operation where possible.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and get services safely back up and running as soon as possible.”
