Greater Anglia has open applications for its three-week ‘First Step into Rail’ employability scheme for young people.
The unpaid scheme will provide 10 candidates, aged 18-25, who are not in training, education or employment with valuable skills and hands-on experience.
The programme will see candidates work with Customer Service colleagues at stations and receive classroom training across numerous topics, including communication skills and personal confidence.
Candidates will gain a broad introduction to the railway, with skills being developed across different sectors.
Three days will be spent at busy stations across the network, and two days will be spent in a classroom session at Greater Anglia’s Stratford Headquarters each week.
While it is an unpaid scheme, participants will receive reimbursement for expenses, with free travel provided on the Greater Anglia network, during the placement.
Applications can be made online until 14th December 2025.
“We are excited to be offering the ‘First Step into Rail’ scheme again, following a successful first year in 2024.
“The scheme has been designed to give attendees valuable skills, giving young people who are keen to learn an insight into working on the railway at our HQ and stations. This will open a huge array of opportunities for candidates to use after completing the programme.”
Viktorija Starling, Greater Anglia’s Early Careers and Apprenticeship Manager
