As part of a £1 million investment, Network Rail will be carrying out improvement work on the Stranraer railway line from the end of this month.

Engineers will be carrying out numerous aspects of crucial work to keep the line reliable and safe fr passengers.

The work will see them carry out drainage upgrades, including using 2,000 tonnes of material to prevent flooding.

Markdh No.1 Level Crossing will also have its surrounding structures and embankments surveyed, while the crossing itself receives an upgrade.

They will be carrying out the investment work between the 28th of November and the 8th of December, and to ensure the work can be carried out safely, buses will replace trains.

The buses will replace services between Ayr and Stranraer on the above dates, with buses also in place on 30th November between Kilwinning and Ayr.

Passengers are advised to check with their train operator or through National Rail before they travel.

“We’re investing in essential improvements to help keep this route reliable for the communities that depend on it. Strengthening drainage and inspecting key assets will help make the line more resilient to Scotland’s challenging weather, ensuring services can continue to run smoothly.

“We know this work means short term changes to journeys, and we apologise for any inconvenience it will cause. Our teams will be working hard to complete the upgrades as quickly and safely as possible, and we appreciate passengers’ patience while we deliver this important project.”

Ross Moran, route director at Network Rail Scotland
