As part of the Transpennine Route Upgrades (TRU), a new station will be built at Ravensthorpe, meaning that the existing station will close.

The station will be closed from 14th December until the summer of 2028, while they build a new station, 200m west of the current one.

Rail replacement buses will be in place between Ravensthorpe and Dewsbury.

The new station will feature a new footbridge with lifts and step-free access, an improved drop-off area and a new forecourt.

The platforms will also be longer to accommodate longer trains.

The station is part of wider work planned for the area, which will see a four-track railway installed through the existing station and the new one.

The new station can’t be built until the tracks are laid and the new Baker Viaduct is constructed.

This upgrade will also form part of the work in the Ravensthorpe triangle, which has seen work on the Calder Road Bridge and the Baker Viaduct.

“The closure of Ravensthorpe station marks the beginning of a pivotal phase for TRU and perhaps one of the most significant projects within the programme – the scale of work being undertaken in Ravensthorpe serves as a great indicator of the upgrades that will be delivered here.

“The four-tracking over a brand-new viaduct and through a modernised station means customers will benefit from faster, more reliable journeys across the Pennines with greater capacity.

“We’d like to thank the community for their understanding as we deliver these major upgrades.”

Andrew Campbell, TRU sponsor
