Starting this weekend, thousands of people are expected to travel by train to visit Birmingham’s German Christmas market.

The event is a city favourite, with last year drawing in over 9 million passengers to Birmingham New Street during the season.

Plans have been organised by Birmingham City Council, the British Transport Police, and train operators to keep people safe at Birmingham New Street, Birmingham Moor Street and Birmingham Snow Hill.

Those attending via train are being advised to check before they travel, and avoid relying on the last train home, as this is expected to be extremely busy and as always, to respect staff and other passengers.

A dedicated anti-social behaviour team will also be in place at Birmingham New Street, along with St John Ambulance volunteers and British Transport Police.

Passengers are also reminded that queuing systems may also be in place during peak times to avoid overcrowding and ensure people board safely.

Planning can be done online, with further information about the Christmas markets found here.

“We love this time of the year and seeing the city centre bustling with people. While we’re ready to welcome everyone to the station, we ask passengers to follow our three golden rules – plan your journey, know your last trains, and respect staff and each other – to help make journeys as smooth as possible.

“We will have extra staff across the station to provide advice and information and to help keep passengers safe and can’t wait to welcome people throughout the festive season.”
