The headline sponsor for the EV Rally Cymru 2025, which takes place on Wednesday, 22nd and Thursday, 23rd October, will be Transport for Wales (TfW).

The rally aims to demonstrate Wales’ leadership in sustainable mobility when a convoy of electric vehicles (EVs) travels from Wrexham to Cardiff, via Ynys Môn, Aberystwyth and Pembrokeshire, to highlight the growth of EV infrastructure in the Principality. During the rally, major green energy and transport initiatives will be highlighted.

Partnering with TfW in the rally will be TrydaNi, a not-for-profit EV community car club, with its team including the multiple Guinness World Record holder for efficient EV driving, Kevin Booker, who is an IT and Fleet Manager from Bannau Brycheiniog, as well as other car club members, and Transport for Wales and Welsh Government representatives.

Wales already has the fourth-highest number of publicly available EV charge points per capita in the UK. Through helping to deliver fast chargers across Wales’ strategic road and rail network, and by working with local authorities and national partners, TfW is playing a key role in expanding access to EV charge points, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

As well as the rally itself, teams will be on hand at checkpoints to demonstrate projects at the forefront of the transition to clean energy, highlighting the link between clean transport and clean energy. By sponsoring the rally, TfW is showing its commitment to delivering Wales’ decarbonisation goals and a modern, integrated transport network for the whole community.

Six years ago, Transport for Wales published a Sustainable Development Plan, detailing sustainability targets and the actions it would take to ensure they are achieved. In 2022, Transport for Wales’s Community Rail Partnerships and Visit Wales jointly funded a ‘Wales on Rails’ project to promote public transport as the best and most sustainable way to visit key tourist attractions.

“Powering the EV Rally Cymru is part of our mission to transform transport. Wales is leading the charge in EV infrastructure, and TfW is accelerating that journey. Events like EV Rally Cymru help bust myths, build confidence, and show how far we’ve come. We can’t wait to get started.”

Tony Clayton, Decarbonisation Programme Manager at TfW
