The 19-year partnership between Luton Town FC and Thameslink has been celebrated with a rail safety day.

The Academy players had a go on the operator’s simulators to further understand the risks of the railway.

They attended London Blackfriars station to experience being a train driver and the challenges involved.

The group was educated on risks and how to spot them and respond safely by the Safety and Security School Engagement Manager, Ross Evans.

The partnership has seen 366 season-long passes to the Hatters’ 16-18 apprentices, meaning that players can get to education and training for free.

The partnership has also seen multiple successful campaigns, including Brew Monday with the Samaritans.

“It was fantastic to welcome the Luton Town Academy team for this safety awareness day, as they now have a better understanding of how our colleagues keep thousands of customers safe every day. The railway is a safe and sustainable way to travel, and it’s important everyone understands the dangers and how to mitigate risks, for example by standing behind the yellow line and being aware of our surroundings.

“We’re delighted we are continuing our partnership with the football club, so these young people can pursue their passion for football and unlock their talents. It’s just one of the ways we make a difference for the communities we serve.”

Ross Evans
