The Branch Line Society is providing an opportunity to travel behind the brand new Class 93 tri-mode locomotive.
Thanks to the Rail Operations Group (ROG) and Barrow Hill Roundhouse, there is a last-minute opportunity to witness one of the 30 Stadler tri-mode locomotives on the Springwell Branch.
The locomotives are capable of running on electric, battery or diesel and will be used to haul freight and the new high-speed intermodal services.
This will be the first opportunity for passengers to ride behind one.
It forms part of the Railway 200 celebrations going on at Barrow Hill Roundhouse.
The three-day event already stars Deltic 55009 and A3 60103 “Flying Scotsman”.
The Class 93 will be running four trips in the evening, with 58023 powering back to the Roundhouse platform.
To make the experience unique, an alternate Class 93 has been requested, as one appeared at The Greatest Gathering in August for cab rides.;
The specific locomotive will be confirmed as soon as possible, and a separate Barrow Hill Roundhouse Celebration 200 ticket will be required should you wish to enter the site before the ride.
Standard fares will cost £30, and any profits will be donated to the Barrow Hill Engine Shed Society.
Further information on the event can be found online.
