Next weekend, on the 1st and 2nd of November, bridge refurbishment work will disrupt services to Frome, Somerset.

They will be working to complete a refurbishment on the Portway railway bridge, which runs over the A362, near Frome station.

Work initially began on the bridge last month, on the 19th September

The bridge will be strengthened to allow for frequent, faster services to run safely over it without causing delays to services.

The work means that no trains will call at Frome over that weekend.

This will see buses replace trains between Frome and Westbury, and train services that are running will use an alternative route and not call at Frome.

The A362 will also be closed until 24th November, with a diversionary route in place. Pedestrian access under the bridge will remain open.

“This weekend of work is a crucial time in the project to make sure we can reopen the road on time.

“We’re sorry for the disruption but it’s vital that we have a bridge that’s safe for trains long into the future.”

Network Rail lead portfolio manager Vaheesan Maheswaran
