With major events taking place in Glasgow and Edinburgh, trains in Scotland are expected to be extremely busy this weekend.

In Glasgow, Hampden Park will host the two Premier Sports Cup semi-finals, while in Edinburgh, Scotland will play the USA in a rugby international at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

On Saturday, 1st November, Motherwell will play St Mirren at Hampden Park with a 17.30 kick-off, and at 17.40 the Quilter Nations Series between Scotland and the USA will kick off. To help supporters travel to and from the games, ScotRail will run extra trains and add extra carriages to scheduled services before and after both games.

Before the match, queuing systems will be in place at Glasgow Central. St Mirren supporters should use Mount Florida to travel to and from the match, whilst Motherwell supporters should use Kings Park station, with queuing systems in place at both stations after the game.

Supporters travelling to watch the Scotland v USA rugby international should use Haymarket station, which is close to the stadium.

After the match, Haymarket station will be very busy, and a designated holding area on Haymarket Terrace will be in place to manage crowds safely and efficiently before supporters are directed to the appropriate queue for their train home.

As well as the rugby, two important football matches are taking place on Saturday afternoon, with Hearts playing Dundee at Tynecastle, and Hibernian playing Livingston at the Almondvale Stadium, and the Terminal V Festival 2025 is being held at the Royal Highland Centre.

There are concerts and events at Glasgow’s SEC Campus, including the Four Brits Book Fest, whilst at the OVO Hydro, Steve Backshall Live and Marti Pellow will be drawing the crowds.

On Sunday, 2nd November, Celtic face Rangers in the second Premier Sports Cup Semi-Final at Hampden Park with a 14.00 kick-off. Travel arrangements will be similar to Saturday, with Rangers fans using Mount Florida Station, and Celtic fans using Kings Park.

More information about special travel arrangements for the weekend is online at www.scotrail.co.uk/sport.

ScotRail is well-practised in handling extra crowds in Edinburgh and Glasgow, such as for the Oasis concert at Murrayfield in August, and Scotland v Belarus football international at Hampden Park earlier this month.

“It’s going to be a very busy weekend right across Scotland’s Railway, with big matches, concerts, and events in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. We’ll have extra trains and more seats to help get people where they need to be, but services will be busy, particularly around Hampden and Murrayfield. Our advice is to plan ahead, buy your tickets before you travel, and allow extra time for your journey. Queuing systems will be in place at key stations, so please follow the instructions of staff to help keep everyone moving safely.”
