The Talyllyn Railway has confirmed that overnight running will feature in its bumper anniversary gala next year.

On the 11th October 1950, the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society was formed after the death of the railway’s owner, Sir Henry Haydn Jones, with the aim of preserving and operating the railway.

75 years later, the Annual General Meeting of the TRPS has been held in Tywyn, where the dates for the 75th Anniversary Gala were announced.

A special logo has also been unveiled for the special year.

The Talyllyn Railway kickstarted the global preserved railway movement when, on the 14th May 1951, the railway operated the first public train.

The 14th May 2026 will see invited guests from heritage railways assemble for a special train to mark the initial train.

Then, on the 15th, 16th and 17th May, the toys come out to play!

TR Best Hits will feature across the weekend, with Friday showcasing the 1950s and 1960s, Saturday will show off the 1970s and 1980s, and Sunday will showcase the 1990s through to the present day.

Saturday will also see the return of overnight running for the first time in 11 years, with steam services running straight through to Sunday morning.

More details will be announced in due course.
