Britain’s Most Life Changing Station in the World Cup of Stations has been announced.
Public votes flooded in to vote Ashington as this year’s winner.
Ashington competed against 330 nominations, which were whittled down into just 20 stations by a judging panel.
In just over 5 days, over 24,000 people voted, with Ashington standing out due to being one of the country’s newest stations.
The Northumberland Line station received 28.3% of the votes.
“The success of the Northumberland Line in its first ten months, even before all stations have opened, has been nothing short of phenomenal. Ashington station, in particular, has become a vital link for local people, dramatically reducing travel time and strengthening connections between Ashington and Newcastle.
“This recognition is a testament to the station’s importance to the community. Ashington has a proud sporting heritage, having produced international athletes and World Cup winners. It’s fantastic to see the station not only nominated but winning this award, a reflection of its role in revitalising local transport and pride.
“Crucially, this achievement would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of local campaigners who fought for the station’s reopening, and the dedication of everyone involved in delivering the project. Their work has helped reconnect communities and open up new opportunities for the region.”
