A new campaign has been launched by Northern to highlight how cheap off-peak fares are in comparison to everyday expenses.
Some off-peak fares are cheaper than many items, including meal deals, streaming services and a takeaway coffee.
They are aiming to alter the perceptions people hold of train travel prices, while encouraging people to choose train travel for their days out.
In Leeds Trinity Shopping Centre and Manchester Arndale, members of the Northern team will be hosting a gameshow-type event, where people can guess whether a train ticket costs more or less than an everyday item.
The events will be held in Leeds on the 30th October (10 am- 3 pm) and in Manchester on the 31st October (10 am- 3 pm).
Take part for your chance to win prizes, which include free travel.
“There’s a big misunderstanding out there that train travel always comes with a high price tag – and it simply isn’t true. Millions of the tickets we sell every year cost just £5 or less.
“This autumn, we want to show people just how affordable a day out by train can be. Whether it’s exploring a new city, catching up with friends or heading somewhere scenic, many of our tickets cost less than the everyday items we all buy without a second thought.
“We’re looking forward to meeting customers in Manchester and Leeds and surprising a few people along the way.”
