Between 14th September and 11th October 2025, Northern recorded its busiest month since before 2020.

Just over 8.1 million journeys were made, showing an 8.3% increase from last year.

The last time numbers for Northern were this high in a four-week window was in February 2020.

Many passengers took advantage of the recent flash sale, purchasing 150,000 advanced tickets.

Storm Amy did cause some disruption at the start of October; however, Northern’s passenger numbers still rose.

Northern is still working to improve services and sees no more than 2% of services cancelled, with 90% arriving within 3 minutes of the scheduled time.

“This record performance is a testament to the growing strength of our network and the trust our customers place in us.

“We’re seeing more people than ever choosing Northern for work, leisure and everything in between – and initiatives like the Flash Sale are helping make rail travel more accessible and affordable.

“I’d like to thank our customers for trusting Northern – we know there is more work to be done on performance, and we’re working hard to get things right.”

Alex Hornby, commercial and customer director for Northern
